The decline in Hungary's industrial production eased in January, but to a lesser extend than economists had forecast, latest data showed Thursday.

Industrial production decreased a working-day adjusted 1.4 percent year-on-year in January, slower than the 3.4 percent decrease seen in December, preliminary data from the Central Statistical Office showed. Economists had forecast a more modest decrease of 0.8 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, production declined 1.4 percent annually, after falling 7.6 percent in December, data showed.

On a monthly basis, industrial output increased 2.9 percent in January, after falling 1.6 percent in December.
