German premium car-maker Bayerische Motoren Werke AG or BMW Group (BAMXY.PK,BAMXF.PK,BMW.L) Friday reported a 4.7 percent increase in deliveries in February and said it intends to continue the positive development in the year.
In the month of February, the company sold 133,630 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand automobiles worldwide, higher than 127,638 vehicles sold in the previous year.
"In February the BMW Group achieved another healthy increase in sales and we intend to continue the positive development with exciting new models throughout the year," said Ian Robertson, member of the board of management of BMW AG, Sales and Marketing BMW.
BMW brand's sales in the month increased 7 percent year-over-year to 114,908 vehicles.
Meanwhile, MINI brand delivered 18,527 cars worldwide, down 7.5 percent from the previous year. The launch of MINI Paceman in mid-March is expected to bring further momentum to global sales for the brand, the company said.
In Europe, deliveries increased 6.6 percent, and in Russia, sales jumped 28 percent. In Germany, BMW Group registrations were almost unchanged from last year's level. In Asia, deliveries climbed 6.3 percent.
Year-to-date, the company delivered 256,929 vehicles compared to 239,802 vehicles in the prior year; an increase of 7.1 percent from last year. Year-to-date registrations in Germany increased 4.5 percent from the prior year.
BMW Motorrad sales remained about last year's level in February with a total of 6,847 motorcycles sales. Year-to-date, the company sold 11,665 motorcycles, down 3.4 percent.
On Frankfurt's Xetra, BMW shares are currently trading at 72.67 euros, up 0.65 euros or 0.90 percent.
