Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (GWR), owner and operator of short line and regional freight railroads, Wednesday reported higher carloads for the month of February. The company, for comparitive purposes, is also providing supplemental 2012 carload information on a pro forma basis as though the RailAmerica Inc. railroads were owned by it on January 1, 2012.
For the reporting period, the firm posted 140,200 carloads, up 94.1 percent from 72,245 carloads posted a year earlier and up 0.5 percent from 139,453 carloads reported a year earlier on a pro forma basis.
The company further said, of the total carloads, same railroad-carloads for the reporting period were 137,441 compared with 72,245 last year and 139,453 on a pro forma basis.
