Payment processor Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. (FIS) announced Monday the promotion of Chief Accounting Officer and Controller James "Woody" Woodall to chief financial officer, effective immediately. Woodall will replace Michael Hayford, who had announced in December 2012 his intention to retirement in 2013.

"On behalf of the Board and FIS Management, we are pleased to welcome Woody to his new position. He has played an integral role in the development and execution of FIS' financial strategy and has built deep relationships with the investment community. His expertise across all aspects of our financial operations will result in a shortened and smooth transition period of the CFO function," Chairman and CEO Frank Martire said in a statement.

In his new role, Woodall will be responsible for all aspects of the company's financial operations such as "controllership, treasury, investor relations, financial planning and analysis and corporate development functions, in addition to FIS' capital allocation strategy."

Woodall most recently served as senior vice president, chief accounting officer and controller for FIS since July 2008. He came to FIS after serving as vice president of finance at Eclipsys Corp., and spending six years as executive director and controller of the southeast region at AT&T, Inc.(T), where also held finance roles of increasing responsibility.

Prior to joining AT&T, Woodall was a senior manager in the audit practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers serving technology and communications clients.

"Woody's contributions over the past five years have been crucial in helping FIS achieve its financial performance goals and deliver increased value to its shareholders. The appointment of Woody to the CFO position brings proven financial leadership to our Executive Management team and ensures that we can continue to deliver on the financial strategies that support our growth goals," President and COO Gary Norcross added.

Meanwhile, Hayford has served as CFO since October 2009, and is responsible for all finance, accounting and investor relations activities for the company. He joined FIS through the October 2009 acquisition of Metavante Corp., where he served as president and chief operating officer since May 1, 2006 and as president since November 2008.

Hayford joined Metavante in 1992 as head of operations and was promoted to chief information officer in 1993. Since then, he has held various positions with Metavante, including general manager of the financial products group. He was named CFO in 2001 and served in the position until July 2007.

Hayford joined Metavante after serving for a decade with business and technology consulting company Andersen Consulting LLP, now known as Accenture.

FIS closed Friday's regular trading session at $38.30, down $0.19 on a volume of 10.38 million shares.
