Two Icelandic men have died in a skydiving accident not far from Tampa, Florida.
MSN News reports that the two men, Orvar Arnarson, 41, a skydiving instructor who worked at the facility, and Andrimar Pordarson, 25, a student who had already performed several successful jumps, were both found dead in the woods south of the Zephyrhills Municipal Airport in Florida.
Police investigating the incident found that neither man had deployed their parachutes and that the backup automatic parachutes had not deployed with enough time to fully inflate. The two jumpers dove from the plane separately and not in tandem, making the incident extremely rare.
Experts say that deaths resulting from parachute accidents are uncommon, with only 19 parachute deaths reported in the U.S. last year. In it's 20-year existence, Skydive City, the place where the two men jumped, have seen only 12 deaths total out of approximately 75,000 jumps a year.
