Cal-Maine Foods Inc. (CALM) reported third-quarter net income of $30.6 million or $1.27 per share, up from $26.1 million or $1.09 per share in the third quarter of fiscal 2012.

Net sales for the third quarter rose to $360.4 million from $303.7 million for the same quarter of fiscal 2012. The higher sales reflect both improved volumes from our recent acquisitions and higher average selling prices compared with the third quarter of fiscal 2012.

Specialty egg sales have been steadily increasing throughout this fiscal year and accounted for 16.7 percent of dozen eggs sold and 23.6 percent of total shell egg sales revenue for the third quarter of fiscal 2013, compared to 16.4 percent of dozen eggs sold and 23.4 percent of total shell egg sales revenue for the third quarter of fiscal 2012.

For the third quarter of fiscal 2013, the company will pay a cash dividend of approximately $0.423 per share to holders of its common and Class A common stock. The dividend is payable May 16, 2013, to shareholders of record on May 1, 2013.

The company said it believes it is on track for another successful year in fiscal 2013.
