Romania Feb. Retail Sales Fall, Output Price Inflation Eases

Romania's retail sales decreased a seasonally adjusted 2 percent month-on-month in February, data released by the National Institute of Statistics showed Tuesday.

Sales of food products fell 3.8 percent sequentially, and sales of automotive fuel in specialized stores dropped by 4.7 percent.

On an annual basis, unadjusted sales increased 1.8 percent during the month. During the two months ended February, trade in the retail sector advanced 2.4 percent from a year earlier.

Separately, the agency said Romania's producer price inflation weakened to 5.4 percent in February from 5.7 percent in January.

Mining and quarrying prices rose 2.7 percent annually, and prices in the manufacturing sector advanced 4.3 percent. There was an 11 percent increase in output prices of utilities during the month.

Overall producer prices of goods sold in the domestic market grew 6.5 percent from a year earlier, and prices of goods meant for the export market advanced 3.2 percent.

Month-on-month, the producer price index moved up 0.3 percent in February, after rising 1.1 percent in the previous month, data showed.
