Beastie Boys Serve 19,000 Free Lunches In Wake Of Sandy

Mike D of the Beastie Boys says that he has given away over 19,000 free meals to victims of Super Storm Sandy since the devastating storm hit New York City in October.

The rapper has been operating a food truck in Brooklyn called the Rockaway Plate Lunch with restaurant owner Robert McKinley. The two have striven to provide storm victims with a warm healthy meal as they struggle to clean up the area.

"We saw right away all these people living without any power, without any businesses being open and therefore, no food," Mike D told Rolling Stone.

"We saw the immediate need for warm food, but we didn't have time to put together a long-term cohesive plan; we just had to react quickly."

The truck offers hungry New Yorkers a simple menu of chicken, beans, rice and vegetables, served piping hot and free.
