Shania Twain presented an award to a Vancouver music teacher for his work with children.
Twain gave the MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award, and a $10,000 check, to Mark Reid, the department head and director of bands and choir at Vancouver Technical Secondary School, for his dedication in working with children.
Reid did not know he had been nominated until he received a phone call from the MusiCounts office, during which he was invited to Las Vegas for the ceremony.
Twain said of Reid: "Music helps define who we are as individuals and I applaud MusiCounts' steadfast commitment to ensuring that our children have music in their schools. It was a privilege to meet Mr. Reid and to bestow him with this honour from such a vital program."
Reid was surprised to both receive the award and to meet Twain: "Receiving this award is an honor I share with supportive colleagues and dedicated students. It was a thrill to have Shania Twain, such a successful Canadian musician, present this award to me after her spectacular show!"
