AMD Posts Narrower Q1 Loss Than Analysts Expected

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) reported a net loss for the first quarter of $146 million or $0.19 per share, compared to a net loss of $590 million or $0.80 per share for the year-ago quarter.

Excluding items, adjusted net loss for the first quarter was $94 million or $0.13 per share, compared to $adjusted net income of $92 million or $0.12 per share in the prior year quarter.

Revenue for the first quarter fell to $1.09 billion from $1.59 billion a year ago.

Analysts poled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report a loss of $0.17 per share on revenue of $1.05 billion for the first quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Looking forward, AMD expects second quarter revenue to increase 2%, plus or minus 3%, sequentially.
