Danish retail sales declined in March largely due to the decrease in clothing sales turnover, Statistics Denmark said Monday. Consumer confidence deteriorated for the second consecutive month in April.
Sales dropped 0.5 percent in March from a month ago, when it rose 0.4 percent. Clothing sales were down 2.7 percent and other consumer goods turnover eased 0.6 percent. Meanwhile, food sales gained 0.1 percent.
On a yearly basis, retail sales declined 4.4 percent, following a 3.9 percent drop in the prior month.
In a separate communique, the statistical office said consumer confidence fell to -2.8 in April from -2.1 in March.
