DeVry, Inc. (DV) Tuesday reported a declined in profit for the third quarter, as revenues dropped almost 6 percent from last year. Earnings however, came in above analysts' expectations.

Net income for the quarter decreased to $56.82 million or $0.88 per share from $67.13 million or $1.00 per share last year.

On average, 15 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.82 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Revenues totaled $508.75 million, down 5.9 percent from $540.81 million last year. Analysts expected revenues of $516.64 million.
