Shares of Synaptics Inc. (SYNA) surged more than 18% in after hours trading after the touchscreen maker reported better-than-expected third quarter results and forecast current quarter revenue above analysts' current consensus estimate.

Freescale Semiconductor, Ltd. (FSL) shares rose more than 8% in extended hours trading after the chipmaker reported forecast-beating first quarter results.

Shares of J.C. Penney Co. (JCP) rallied more than 6% in late trading after a regulatory filing showed that billionaire investor George Soros has bought a 7.91% stake in the struggling department-store chain..

Shares of Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) lost more than 4% in after hours trading after the online retailer reported first quarter sales slightly below estimates and gave a down-beat sales forecast for the current quarter.

Starbucks Corp. (SBUX) shares declined more than 2% in extended hours trading after the specialty coffee retailer forecast third quarter earnings below analysts' current consensus estimate.
