Anworth Mortgage Asset Corp. (ANH) Monday reported first-quarter net income to common stockholders of $22.2 million or $0.15 per share, compared to $27.7 million or $0.20 per share in the comparable quarter last year.

The company reported core earnings available to common stockholders of $22.2 million, or $0.15 per share for the first quarter ended March 31, 2013. On average, eight analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $0.13 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Net interest income for the quarter declined to $22.2 million from $32.3 million a year ago.

On March 28, 2013, the company declared a quarterly common stock dividend of $0.15 per share, which is payable on April 29, 2013 to holders of its common stock as of the close of business on April 8, 2013.
