Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd. (BIN,BIN.TO) reported a rise in first-quarter net income to $29.34 million, or $0.25 a share, from $22.07 million, or $0.19 a share, last year.
Consolidated revenues of $486.56 million in the first quarter, up 11.0% from the prior-year quarter's $438.28 million. Consolidated organic revenue growth was 1.8%. Excluding the 0.5% decline in revenues due to lower recycled commodity prices, organic revenue grew 2.3% versus the same period a year ago.
On average, 10 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $0.20, on $466.73 million of revenues for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.
