Growth in Turkish manufacturing sector eased in April, a survey by Markit Economics and HSBC revealed Thursday.

The headline purchasing managers' index fell to 51.3 in April from 52.3 in March. Despite the slowdown, operating conditions have now strengthened for eight successive survey periods.

"After a strong start to the year, the recovery in manufacturing appears to be plateauing," HSBC economist Melis Metiner said. "If the PMI and official production figures point to further loss of pace in the upcoming months, the central bank could consider easing monetary policy further," Metiner added.

Manufacturing production rose for the ninth month running during April, though the rate of expansion slowed to the slowest in eight months. New business from abroad rose for the fifth month running, but also at a weaker rate than in the previous survey period, Markit said.
