Mondi plc (MNDI.L), a paper and packaging company, Friday posted an underlying operating profit 162 million euros for the first quarter, despite the effects of a one-off write-down in the value of green energy credits of 11 million euros.
The firm pinned the increase to improved market conditions in the packaging paper and South African businesses, and the benefits from acquisitions completed towards the end of last year.
Mondi, in its interim management statement, said that the sales volumes were above compared with last year, and the benchmark selling prices across all grades in the European businesses were unchanged.
