Turkey's consumer price inflation weakened more-than-expected in April after rising in the previous month, latest data showed Friday.
Inflation as per the consumer price index dropped to 6.13 percent in April from 7.29 percent in March, the Turkish Statistical Institute said. Economists had forecast a more modest deceleration to 6.47 percent.
Costs of food and non-alcoholic beverages climbed 6.83 percent annually. Prices at hotels, cafes and restaurants rose 8.97 percent from a year earlier, and communication expenses advanced 6.85 percent.
On a monthly basis, the consumer price index moved up 0.42 percent in April, weaker than the 0.68 percent gain forecast by economists.
Separately, the agency said Turkey's producer price inflation slowed to 1.7 percent in April from 2.3 percent in March. In February, producer prices rose 1.84 percent year-on-year. Month-on-month, overall output prices decreased by 0.51 percent, contrary to expectations for a 0.8 percent rise.
