Georgia Holt, mother of Cher, has released a new album of country music, Honky Tonk Woman. The 86-year-old former beauty queen and actress recorded the album in 1980, but it was subsequently shelved and forgotten.
Now, 30 years later, the tapes have been rediscovered, restored and remixed by Paul Mirkovich, the musical director of the singing talent program, The Voice.
Honky Tonk Woman features ten songs from the original sessions including a duet with Cher ("I'm Just Your Yesterday"), plus original compositions by Georgia, along with classics such as "Love Me Tender," "Cryin' Time" and "I'm Movin' On."
On Monday, May 6 the Lifetime network will air a documentary on the life of Holt, Dear Mom, Love Cher, which is produced by her daughter.
Honky Tonk Woman is available now.
