UK insurer Prudential Plc (PRU.L) posted a 5% improvement in first-quarter 2013 new business profit for the total group insurance to 563 million pounds, from 536 million pounds, with total Group annual premium equivalent or APE sales rising 8% to 1.04 billion pounds, from last year's 964 million pounds.
Quarterly new business profit in Asia advanced 18 percent to 308 million pounds, helped by higher sales of savings and protection products to the growing Asian middle class and a more favourable geographic mix that primarily reflects strong growth in its core target markets in South-east Asia and Hong Kong and a deliberate reduction in Taiwan. During the latest quarter, Prudential UK generated new business profit of 63 million pounds.
