KapStone Paper and Packaging Corp. (KS) reported first-quarter net income of $18.5 million or $0.38 per share, compared to $15.6 million or $0.33 per share in the comparable quarter last year.
Excluding items, adjusted earnings for the latest first quarter was $20.4 million or $0.42 per share, up from $17.8 million or $0.38 per share in the prior year quarter. On average, eight analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.42 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Meanwhile, net sales for the first quarter increased 6.7% to $319.81 million from $299.84 million a year ago, while six analysts expected revenue of $311.54 million for the quarter.
