Struggling internet company Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) has been trying to get out of its web-search partnership with Microsoft Corp., as the company's revenue per search has been worse under the partnership than it was when it operated its own web-search technology and advertising system, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The report, quoting a person familiar the situation, said Chief Executive Marissa Mayer has been seeking to end the deal with the software giant, after assuming office last year. However, Yahoo's efforts to end the contract has so far failed.
While Yahoo wants to end the partnership, Microsoft is said to be not interested in doing so. Yahoo said in a regulatory filing on Tuesday that Microsoft extended its U.S. revenue guarantee associated with the partnership, which had expired on March 31. This is the second extension after the pact became effective in 2010.
Meanwhile, Google has reportedly evinced interest in the past year to form a more lucrative partnership to provide web-search and search-advertising technology to Yahoo.
YHOO closed up 3.6 percent on Tuesday at $26.07. MSFT was down 1.3 pecent to settle at $33.31.
