Shane Black ("Iron Man 3") will co-write and direct an upcoming film based on the 1940s-era pulp hero "Doc Savage." Savage, a scientist and adventurer, was known for his mental as well as his physical acuity.
His character is close to that of "Iron Man" hero Tony Starks—apparently an appealing type for Black:
"I'm more interested in things that obsess me, things that catch my attention and ignite any kind of passion I have," Black told the L.A Times. "Working is when I'm most comfortable. I have to be working on something I love."
"Doc Savage" never adapted like other heroes of the era, prompting just one film in 1975, which flopped commercially and critically.
Sony Pictures has not yet announced a timetable for the film.
