American Apparel, Inc. (APP), on a preliminary basis, reported a 4% year-on year increase in total net sales to $49.8 million for April 2013. Monthly comparable sales increased 3%, including a 4% growth in comparable store sales for its retail store channel and a 2% drop in net sales for its online channel. Wholesale net sales went up by 7% for the month of April.

Dov Charney, Chairman and Chief Executive of American Apparel, said: "The decrease in internet sales in the month of April was due to a shift in the timing of certain promotions that will benefit the May online comparisons. So far in May we are very pleased with sales performance in our stores and online. We believe the combination of better weather and a strong summer offering are having a positive impact on our overall results."
