Philippine Exports Edge Up In March

Philippine exports edged up unexpectedly in March, recovering from a sharp decline in February, data from the National Statistics Office showed Friday.

Shipments rose 0.1 percent year-on-year in March against expectations for a 3.7 percent drop. In February, exports were down 15.6 percent.

Export earnings in March amounted to $4.329 billion. Month-on-month, exports grew 15.7 percent following a 6.7 percent fall in the February.

Exports of electronic products, accounting for 34.4 percent of the total exports revenue during the month, tumbled 22.3 percent from a year earlier. This followed a 36.5 percent year-on-year decline in February.

Electronic product shipments increased 18.4 percent on a monthly basis.
