At least five people were killed and more than 50 others, including 12 policemen, were seriously injured in a car bomb attack targeting the police chief of Pakistan's Balochistan province on Sunday night, Pak media reported.

The suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden vehicle outside the residence of Inspector-General Mushtaq Shukhera in the high security zone of Quetta. Shukhera who just reached his home escaped the blast.

Medics attending the injured feared that the death toll could rise as some of them were in critical condition.

"Mustaq Shukera had just entered his residence when the bomber hit the main gate of the house. Law enforcers were also among the dead while a large of injured were civilians," a police officer was quoted in the reports as saying. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Windowpanes of the Governor's official residence, Chief Minister House, Quetta Press Club, P&T Colony, several shopping centers and shops on Jinnah Road were shattered in the blast. Power supply to the area was also disrupted following the incident.
