Beloved psychologist and television presenter Dr. Joyce Brothers has died at her home in Fort Lee, New Jersey at the age 85. Brothers helped lay the groundwork for today's stable of television psychologists including Dr. Phil, Dr. Ruth and Dr. Laura.

She hosted a number of her own shows dating back to the 1950's including "The Dr. Joyce Brothers Show," "Ask Dr. Brothers," "Consult Dr. Brothers" and "Living Easy With Dr. Joyce Brothers."

Joyce first rose to public attention, however, as a contestant on the "The $64,000 Question." She stunned audiences with her deep knowledge of boxing and became only the second ever winner of the top prize, as well as the first woman, according to the New York Times.

That appearance led to a series of guest starring spots initially on sports shows and later as an expert in her chosen field, psychology.
