Barbara Walters has confirmed that she will retire from her full-time network television position next summer. The announcement came during an episode of "The View" earlier this week and Walters says she has no plans to disappear entirely.

"I plan to retire from appearing on television at all," Walters said. "There will be special occasions, and I will come back — I'm not walking into the sunset — but I don't want to appear on another program or climb another mountain."

The announcement came alongside a highlight reel featuring some of Walters' most impressive interviews including Fidel Castro and Monica Lewinsky. In recent years she's been synonymous with "The View," the day time talk series which she both created and co-anchors.
