Antofagasta PLC (ANFGY.PK,ANTO.L) reported first-quarter Group EBITDA of US$781.7 million, compared to US$1.11 billion last year. The Group said the decline mainly reflected the decrease in revenues together with an increase in operating costs.
The volume of copper produced was 183,800 tonnes, a 12.8% increase from prior year. The company said this was mainly due to higher plant throughput at Esperanza. Sales volumes were 170,000 tonnes compared to 158,700 tonnes in the first quarter of prior year, a smaller increase than for production volumes mainly due to temporary delays in shipping due to strike action at ports from which El Tesoro and Michilla's copper production is shipped.
Group revenue was US$1.50 billion compared to US$1.76 billion prior year, with increased copper volumes offset by lower realised copper and gold prices.
