Senior female Pakistani politician Zahra Shahid Hussain of the Tehreek-e-Insaf Party was gunned down Saturday night in Karachi. According to initial reports, unidentified gunmen shot her outside her residence in Karachi. She was the Vice President of Tehreek-e-Insaf Party led by former cricketer Imran Khan.
Her murder comes on the eve of a closely-fought partial reelection in the area following last Saturday's general election. Pakistan's Dawn newspaper, citing police reported that that shooting was a result of an attempted robbery. According to police, the robbers tried to steal Hussain's hand bag and opened gun fire upon resistance by the leader.
PTI chief Imran Khan has condemned the brutal killing of their party leader and demanded early arrest of the culprits.
