Gainers:

Warner Chilcott plc (WCRX) is rising 3 percent to $19.75. Actavis Inc. (ACT) announced that it will acquire the company in a stock-for-stock transaction valued at about $8.5 billion. ACT is up 2 percent to $128.25.

Websense, Inc. (WBSN) is surging 30 percent to $24.99 following the news that it has agreed to be acquired by Vista Equity Partners.

Chesapeake Energy Corp. (CHK) is up 2 percent to $20.65. The company has tapped Anadarko Petroleum Corp. (APC) executive Robert Douglas Lawler to become its Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board.

Plains Exploration & Production Co. (PXP) is gaining 6 percent to $48.40. The company announced that it has received the approval of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX) under the merger agreement between the companies for PXP's board to declare a special one-time cash dividend of $3.00 per share.

Decliners:

Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) is down 1 percent to $26.20 following its announcement about a definitive agreement to acquire Tumblr for total consideration of approximately $1.1 billion. Tumblr is a media network powered by independent creators and home to an audience of more than 300 million unique visitors.

Xenoport, Inc. (XNPT) is falling 28 percent to $4.81 based on the news that it was dropping all plans to develop arbaclofen placarbil for the treatment of patients with spasticity due to multiple sclerosis.

Trading halt:

Trading in shares of OSI Systems, Inc. (OSIS) was halted.

Trading in shares of Peregrine Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (PPHM) was halted. The company announced that it has reached agreement with the FDA on a Phase III registration trial design of its lead clinical immunotherapeutic candidate bavituximab in second-line non-small cell lung cancer.
