Tornadoes hit Oklahoma, Kansas, Illinois and Iowa over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. As many as 26 twisters touched down in those states, damaging property and killing at least one person.
Mary Fallin, Governor of Oklahoma, has declared a state of emergency for 16 counties, while the states Interstate 40 was partially shut down following a three tractor trailer pile-up. NBC station KFOR TV in Oklahoma City reported that one of the 18-wheelers had been blown off a highway overpass.
Oklahoma's Department of Emergency Management told CNN that the carnage could last through Monday:
"We still have a couple of active cells, and so we don't know for sure that it's over yet."
NWS predicted a large and "extremely dangerous and potentially deadly" tornado late Sunday in Wichita, Kansas. The storm struck south of the city, doing a good deal of property damage but not killing anyone.
