Two Brazilian nationals were killed earlier in a hot air balloon accident in the Cappadocia region of Turkey. The incident occurred when two balloons collided mid-air, causing one of the balloons to lose stability and plummet to the ground, reports Hurricane Daily News.

The victims have been identified as 71-year-old Maria Luiza Gomes, who died at the scene, and 65-year-old Mariua Rosas. Both were rushed to nearby hospital for treatment where they were pronounced dead. Twenty-three others were also injured as a result of the crash.

The area is a popular destination for tourists, especially for balloonists, according to Hurricane Daily News. Hasan Ünver, mayor of the Cappadocia town of Nevsehir, says tourists shouldn't be put off by the wreck:

"These [accidents] are very ordinary incidents. More people die while doing parachuting or rafting. The risks are lower in the balloon sector," he said.
