Urban Outfitters Inc. (URBN) Monday posted first-quarter net income of $47.1 million or $0.32 per share, compared to $34.0 million or $0.23 per share in the comparable period last year.
On average, 31 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.29 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Net sales for the latest first quarter were $648.18 million, up 14 percent from $568.93 million last year, while 28 analysts expected revenues of $655.08 million. Comparable store net sales were flat with last year.
Comparable retail segment sales increased 9 percent from last year, with 44 percent at Free People, 6 percent at Urban Outfitters and 8 percent at Anthropologie.
