A couple traveled thousands of miles out of their way to an entirely different content, as a result of the wrong airline code.
Sandy Valdiviseo and her husband Triet Vo were traveling from Los Angeles to Dakar, the capital of Senegal in Turkish Airlines. The error went unnoticed until they saw the route map of the flights progress in the Middle East; they had just gotten on a connecting flight to Istanbul.
The woman said, "When the flight attendant said we were heading to Dhaka, we believed that this was how you pronounced 'Dakar' with a Turkish accent," UK's Telegraph reports.
They tried making arrangements to board a flight to Senegal when they arrived in Bangladesh. Reportedly, the Turkish Airline insisted on tracking down records of the initial booking before acknowledging their systems error and sending them to West Africa, UK's Telegraph reports.
The airport code for Dakar is DKR, and the code for Dhaka, the code for Bangladesh is DAC.
The couple's baggage arrived in Senegal two days after they did. A spokeswoman for Turkish Airlines apologized for the mistake.
