Mia Maestro has reportedly signed on to appear in a new FX network pilot called "The Strain." Maestro, best known for her role on "Alias," will play Dr. Nora Martinez on the new series from Guillermo Del Toro and Carlton Cuse.

The show will be based on Del Toro and Chuck Hogan's novel trilogy of the same name. The story follows Ephraim "Eph" Goodweather, and CDC investigator tracking the spread of a vampire virus through New York City.

Dr. Martinez serves both as Goodweather's second in command and love interest. The lead will be played by Corey Stoll, who broke out with his role on Netflix's original series "House of Cards."

"The Strain" is currently prepping to shoot the pilot and as of March was already working on scripts for further episodes, FX boss John Landgraf told the Hollywood Reporter in March.
