Carol Burnett has been named this year's recipient of the Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize for Humor. The 80-year-old comic will be honored with the award at an official ceremony held at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall in Washington, D.C. on October 20.
The event will be taped for a PBS special that will air on October 30. Burnett joins elite company as a recipient of the award, which is given to comics, writers and entertainers who impact American culture through their use of humor.
She released an official statement on the prize, noting:
"I can't believe I'm getting a humor prize from the Kennedy Center. It's almost impossible to be funnier than the people in Washington."
Previous winners include Ellen DeGeneres, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Bill Cosby, George Carlin, Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg.
