Health officials in Nevada are reporting salmonella was the possible source that sickened at least 300 people.

According to a recent release from the Southern Nevada Health District, the outbreak occurred last month, vegasinc.com reports. Approximately 294 people from 27 different states and two foreign countries became ill after eating at a restaurant called Firefly Tapas Kitchen & Bar.

Health officials said, "[There is] a small possibility that raw chorizo was contaminated prior to arriving at Firefly," the report says. "It is likely that the outbreak was due to local cross-contamination in the restaurant's kitchen and not from a contaminated commercial food," vegasinc.com reports.

The new report shows chorizo tested positive for salmonella, but it might not have been just chorizo carrying the bacteria.

Since the incident, Firefly's owner was ordered to close the restaurant down by Health officials after 44 health code violations were discovered. The owner said it will be moved to a new location.

An investigation remains underway.
