Matthew Ryan Buquet, a Spokane, Washington man, pled not guilty to one count of mailing a threatening communication in federal court on Wednesday following accusations by the FBI that he mailed letters containing the poison ricin.

Local news source KREM reports that one of the letters was addressed to the Spokane post office while another was addressed to Judge Fred van Sickle. Both letters were intercepted by Post Office employees who prevented harm from coming to anyone.

The FBI subsequently obtained a search warrant for Buquet's apartment building, but did not say whether they obtained any information in his place of residence.

According to the Spokesman-Review, Buquet, who has a previous conviction for indecent liberties involving a 10-year-old girl, faces up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine should he be convicted.
