An Alabama woman is facing criminal charges this week after she admitted to snorting cocaine while pregnant.
Jennifer Leigh Wheat, 33, of Gadsden, Alabama has been charged with chemical endangerment of a child, according to the region's NBC affiliate WVTM.
Etowah County Sheriff's Office broke news of the arrest in an official statement with Sheriff Todd Entrekin saying: "It is simply unacceptable for an adult to endanger a child's life with their choice to use drugs."
Earlier this month, Entrekin appeared alongside District Attorney Jimmie Harp and the director of Etowah County Department of Human Resources to address the very issue chemical endangerment to children.
The two spoke out on the issue during a joint news conference on May 20, WVTM adds.
