Paul Pozonsky, a retired Washington County Common Pleas Judge, has been accused of stealing cocaine by Pennsylvania's Attorney General, Kathleen G. Kane, reports local news source FOX 43.
The former judge allegedly misappropriated coke that was submitted in drug-related cases over which he presided. Pozonsky resigned abruptly last year amid charges that he was the subject of a grand jury investigation.
According to a release from Kane's office, Pozonsky instructed police officers to bring cocaine into his courtroom which would then be entered into evidence and held by him and his staff. In May 2012, President Judge Debbie O'Dell ordered state police to investigate the practice, leading to the discovery that it had been tampered with.
The Observer-Reporter writes that Pozonsky has been arraigned on four counts of theft and possession of cocaine, and one count each of restricted activities, misapplication of entrusted property and obstructing the administration of law. He's currently free on a $25,000 bond.
