Austrian Industrial Production Declines In March

Austria's industrial production decreased from last year in March, data released by Statistics Austria showed Friday.

Industrial production declined a working-day adjusted 1.7 percent year-on-year in March. Production, excluding the construction sector, was lower by 1.4 percent than a year earlier.

Driving the overall slump in activity, intermediate goods production fell by 3.3 percent, and energy production dropped by 3.7 percent. Production of consumer durables was lower by 9.1 percent than in March 2012.

Meanwhile, output of capital goods and non-durable consumer goods increased by 1 percent and 1.9 percent from a year earlier.

On a monthly basis, industrial production fell a seasonally adjusted 1.9 percent in March, the agency said.
