A 5.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded north of Sacramento on Thursday in Plumas County, according to the United States Geological Service. The Mercury News reports that residents had their homes rattled but no injuries or serious damage was incurred.

Rafael Abreau, a geophysicist with the USGS National Earthquake Center, says the quake was centered six miles west northwest of Greenville, and 26 miles southwest of Susanville.

"We got a bunch of alarm calls and a bunch of barking dogs," a dispatcher for Sacramento Police Department told the Los Angeles Times. "It was a good solid feel here."

Following the initial quake, which was felt as far north as Oregon, over a dozen aftershocks were reported, including a 3.5 magnitude shock at 8:55 PM and a 2.6 magnitude shock at 9:07 PM, the USGS notes.
