Leonardo DiCaprio's Space Companion Pays $1.5 Million For Ticket Into Space

An amFar Cinema against AIDS charity auction brought in $25 million on Thursday night, with one unnamed bidder paying $1.5 million to take a trip into outer space with Leonardo DiCaprio, according to People magazine.

The seat on the Virgin Galactic was pumped by the event's auction booklet as a "once-in-a-lifetime trip to space with a mystery guest." The Galactic part of Richard Branson's fledgling space tourism fleet, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Another couple at the auction paid $2.3 million for two seats on the DiCaprio voyage. All three individuals will train with the actor for three days in Texas before heading to outer space.

The unnamed bidder who paid $1.5 for the space trip paid another $1.5 for a trip to the premiere of DiCaprio's upcoming film "The Wolf of Wall Street" and a date with Heidi Klum.
