United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) reported net income for the third quarter of $31.6 million or $0.64 per share, compared to $29.0 million or $0.59 per share for the year-ago quarter.
Net sales for the third quarter rose 12.8% to $1.57 billion from $1.39 billion a year ago.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.64 per share on revenue of $1.56 billion for the third quarter.
Looking forward, the company raised its fiscal year 2013 sales guidance to a range of $6.03 billion to $6.06 billion from its prior guidance of $5.88 billion to $5.98 billion provided in September 2012.
The company is also narrowed its fiscal year 2013 earnings guidance to a range of $2.12 to $2.14 per share. Excluding special items, the company expects fiscal 2013 adjusted earnings to be in a range of $2.15 to $2.17 per share. The company previously provided earnings guidance of $2.12 to $2.18 per share on February 26, 2013.
analysts currently expect the company to earn $2.19 per share on revenue of $5.98 billion for the fiscal year 2013.
