The Doobie Brothers are stepping in to replace the ailing Aretha Franklin as a headlining act at this year's Ottawa Jazz Festival.

The Doobies are in the middle of an extensive United States tour, but a June 26 Ottawa stop at the Jazz Festival fits perfectly in the band's six-day gap between gigs in Spokane, Washington, and Atlantic City, New Jersey

Festival programming manager Petr Cancura admitted that some disappointed ticket-holders have already sought out refunds, but the loss is "not as big as we thought."

Though some fans are disappointed in the switch, the Ottawa Jazz Festival will still play host to performances from Wynton Marsalis, Nikki Yanofsky and Willie Nelson, just to name a few.

The jazz festival runs June 20 to July 1; the main stage is at Confederation Park.
