Ireland's service sector expansion eased in May as growth in activity and new orders slowed, a survey by Markit Economics revealed Thursday.

The headline business activity index fell to 52.7 in May from 55.2 in April. However, readings above 50 indicates expansion of the sector.

Despite the slowdown, business activity at service providers has now recorded 10 months of unbroken growth.

New orders expanded for a twenty-second consecutive month in May, albeit at a weaker pace than in April. Higher demand, particularly from the UK and Middle East, lifted employment during the month, the report said.
