Hungary's industrial production increased more-than-expected in April, recovering from six months of declines, latest data showed Friday.

Industrial production, on a working-day adjusted basis, increased 2.9 percent on an annual basis in April, reversing the 0.7 percent fall seen in March, preliminary data from the Central Statistical Office showed. April's gain followed six consecutive contractions. Economists had forecast a 1.4 percent increase for April.

On an unadjusted basis, industrial production recorded a 5.3 percent growth in April, the agency said.

On a monthly basis, industrial production moved up a seasonally adjusted 1.2 percent in April, faster than the 0.4 percent gain seen in the previous month.

During the four months ended April, production in Hungarian industries decreased 1.2 percent from the corresponding period of 2012.
