Adrian Belew has quit the latest Nine Inch Nails lineup.
The King Crimson guitarist (who along with Jane's Addiction founding member Eric Avery was slated to join NIN founding member Trent Reznor for a new album and tour this summer) originally posted a message regarding his departure on his Facebook page, explaining: "Hey folks, before this goes too far let me say this: I greatly respect Trent and the music he makes. No one is at fault. We both agreed it just was not working. I'm sorry to disappoint anyone. That really hurts. But NIN will do an amazing show and I am back where I belong: creating [new band] FLUX."
The message was later deleted and a new message from Belew was posted: "Concerning me being part of the 2013 Nine Inch Nails band: it didn't work."
A replacement for Belew (who collaborated with NIN on the albums The Downward Spiral, The Fragile, and Ghosts I-IV has not been announced for the tour, which is slated to begin this summer and continue into 2014.
This marks the second band member departure for the latest incarnation of the band, after Avery left the band (and was replaced by NIN's Robin Finck).
