Steve Perry, former lead singer for Journey, wrote on his official site that he has undergone two operations in order to beat skin cancer. For now, he said, doctors believe that the operations were successful.

"Three weeks ago a routine mole was taken off my face and the lab report came back Melanoma skin cancer," Perry said. "I've had two surgeries in two weeks to remove all the cancer cells and I've been told they think they got it all and no other treatments are required."

Perry also added the touching story of his relationship with Kellie Nash, a psychologist and breast cancer survivor. He saw her on TV, he said, and then decided he had to meet her. They ended up dating for over a year before Nash's cancer came back and killed her in December 2012.

Perry's former band, meanwhile, has a two-night stand at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida scheduled for June 28. The subsequent tour visits several North American dates through early September.
